I think you can tell the difference when you don't have to tell the difference.
That statement borders on sounding either really smart or making no sense at all.
But if you don't have to question it then you have a friend.

or if you have searched their house and found no knives ;D
Except in abs' case. She would be a good friend AND she has knives. Oh. and Food Geek. I bet she has knives.
I think those are the only exceptions. ;)

The knives thing was a flippant response late at night. What I actually meant to delve into is that enemies have knives whether figurative or literal and aren't afraid to use them. They'll cut a bitch.
Of course, friends may have knives but keep them sheathed and if they do use them, did so without intent.
So enemies act with malice and friends act with goodwill. You can usually ask what the intention was.

friend:
noun-
1. a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
2. a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter: friends of the Boston Symphony.
3. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile: Who goes there, friend or foe?
enemy:
noun-
1. a person who feels hatred for, fosters harmful designs against, or engages in antagonistic activities against another; an adversary or opponent.
2. an armed foe; an opposing military force: The army attacked the enemy at dawn.
3. a hostile nation or state.
4. a citizen of such a state.
5. enemies, persons, nations, etc., that are hostile to one another: Let's make up and stop being enemies.
6. something harmful or prejudical: His unbridled ambition is his worst enemy.
7. and my personal favorite: the Enemy, the Devil; Satan.

CH,
I love ya sweety, but I'm not sure I really get what you're asking - or at least, you haven't asked the question in enough detail.
Friends and Enemies... There's the obvious answer, although I would say deciding who is your enemy is easy than deciding who is your friend. I know there is more to this going on in your head, and you probably want our answers to reflect that, but we'll need a little more info.
Or if you want me to tell you who your specific enemies are, I can shoot you a message on Yahoo :p

i'm just in a weird mood and really pissed and stuff. I don't know if there can be a serious answer to my question... but I wanted to see what churned up.
thanks for looking out for me CL :)

Friend: Has what I want and willing to give it all to me.
Enemy: Has what I want and won't give it to me.
Nah, okay, really a friend is someone who will give and give all out of love for you. An enemy will take and take all out of hatred for you.

I have had more than a few 'enemies' that, over time turned out to be incredible friends. In some ways, more trustworthy that friends from the start.
These are people who built their friendship with me from the absolute bottom up. They weren't ever dazzled by my sparkling wit or outstanding personality. They didn't like me at all and then day by day found things out about me that changed their mind. (I speak of them -> me when the process goes both ways).
This is why I am very very careful with how I treat my enemies.

I compile a dossier on every one I meet. In the event someone turns out to be an enemy, I usually have enough substantial evidence to blackmail if need be, securing my superiority & leverage.

I have no "enemies." I mean, sure, not everyone likes me, but enemy, to me, is someone who's out to do you harm or misguide you on purpose. I have none of those. How many of us really do, I wonder?

I like to think I don't have any... although there are a few members of the religious right I wouldn't want to find behind me in a dark alley at night. I work for a progressive lgbt newspaper and we get death threats all the time. It sometimes makes me a little nervous working alone at night.

If you're not sure, ask your dog. If you don't have a dog - get one.

Are you missing her or missing dating someone? Not dating during the holidays can be rough.

Are you sure it's her you're missing or is it that you missed romantic company in general? I dread being alone on the holidays and have spent quite a few alone myself. Wish you coulda been here!

haha! i always miss "romantic" company! I miss her, very specifically in romatically and otherwise. I know i also need space specifically from her. blah blah. it's my own fault. or not really fault... i knew what was at risk. we both did. We both think we'll be good friends... but only with time.
so i miss her. and i miss all my friends.
being with my parents always makes me feel this way, whether i'm in a relationship or not. it's like a foreign awesome land, but i miss home.

It worries me, too. But damn, I was not feeling too great before I broke it off. YOU know. At least I know I did thr right thing. I have to wait until I feel I did the right thing.
I'm whiney, and my heart has taken a thrashing in SO many ways this year, but I'm strong, really very strong. And I know myself so much better than I did before.
