View Full Version : Where are the queers?

I just had a girl that is extremely progressive politically, a part of every "queer" institution in the region, and (up until recently) has ID'ed as a lesbian (bordering on the more heavily weighted 'queer') tell me that she loves me, but can't be with me because she just realized that "our lifestyle" isn't suitable for a comfortable quality of life. And that the only way she can be happy is if she invests in a nuclear family - a husband, kids, and respect/love from her family (which she is not getting as a queer person).
Is it not a fucking travesty that in addition to the conservative majority that most likely still use the word "queer" with negative connotations, people that are actively invested in the movement (however sloppy it may be) are now slandering and abandoning it?
I think I've lost all hope for humanity. Heh.

Ugh...I've encountered the same thing. "Oh, I'll fuck you till I can find a husband and have a 'real family'!"
Right.
I have no idea what to tell you.
It's really disconcerting.
Every person I have encountered who got married for that reason ended up divorced and back with the "queers" anyway.

Yeah, I've had "on the fence" girls pull that shit. I mean, girls that like other women but are, for all intents and purposes, a part of "straight" culture.
But this chick, she was so 'into' gayness. She was like my gay idol. Haha.. I guess maybe it's the same principle as a closeted gay dude overcompensating by being hyper-masculinized?
Blah. It's all very depressing.

The person I was referring to in that post (well for the most part - there have been others) was president of the campus GLBT organziation.
So, one could say she was an activist too...and a gay until graduation.

I was thinking about someone from another school. I think I know who you're talking about though and she was always weird.

Oh Ho! Deja vu! I had the EXACT same thing happen to me many moons ago, and it took me many many moons to get over it - but I could never get my brain or my heart around the reason. I guess such a person's theme song would be "what's love got to do with it?" Mercenary as any Blackwater recruit.

Updating on this situation because I just saw this thread and thought it was funny... The girl I was talking about - she just broke up with the straight white christian republican boy that she left me for and is now begging for me back, pleading temporary insanity.
