too many lately.
can't deal.
gonna snap.
(before anyone makes any suggestions, I'm a science geek that's been obsessing on how to best mangage migraines for over 20 years so all of those people that are always saying I should try not eating x random thing or change my hairdo or what the fuck can suck my cock.)
/snarky growling. for now.
anyone else here get migraines and want to vent?

No I don't thankfully. But have you ever tried.....
KIDDING !!!!
Seriously, hope they lessen in intensity and frequency soon. I've heard how awful they can be and feel for you.

Sorry Q, no migraines here but I will add I've had tension headaches every day for the past three weeks. Not the same, but I know it's not fun to deal with pain every day.
And this isn't directed at Q, but has anyone heard of taking liquid calcium for pain management? I saw my PT yesterday & she suggested it.

i've never had a migraine *knocks on wood* but i know a few people that do...and all i can ever do for them is just leave them alone.
so i promise not to ring any alarm clocks or play the penny whistle real loud next to your head. is a little hippy drumming ok tho?

I've had one migraine in my life and cannot imagine another one. Sorry, Q.

Migraines are evil.
I have not had one since High Shcool when i realized it was because I was/am allergic to Nutra Sweet. Nasty stuff anyhow...
Quixote

I'll take the hippie drumming.
Weird, no one else here curently gets them. Hmmm. Some statistics say one in ten people do. For something so fuckin' awful you'd think that there would be more research about them.
Anyway, thanks for the sympathies, folks.

ever since my second pregnancy
i get them, but rarely (thankful).
only maybe three or four a year,
so i can't kvetch much.
but offer my sympathy
cause they SUCK.
i mostly just hope the world
pauses enough to let me get through.
last time, my daughter had to make dinner
for herself and her brothers
and made frozen waffles (cause she can)
and when she got the waffles out of
the big freezer in the garage,
she left the keys out there
hanging in the door.
i found them the next morning.
the other thing i get
when under huge stress
is auras with no headache.
freaky shit.

Migraines.
They SUCK!
Thankfully I don't get them as often now as I used to. There was a period of a few years where I'd get one about every month or so. I think they were at least partly tied to my cycle. Anyway, my doc gave me some pain meds that helped, and a few times we caught it early enough that I could go in for one of those injections that sometimes help.
But they really do suck. One time I had to take an ex-girlfriend to the ER because hers had lasted for three days and wasn't getting any better. They ended up giving her morphine before the pain broke. I was sitting next to her bed in the ER and she said she could see the words from my book floating up and across the room. That was actually pretty funny. We still laugh about it whenever I happen to see her.

Yeah - weird. I don't really get that type of intense aura stuff but that's gotta be superfreaky.
Glad that yours are seldom. Still... damn, one ever is too many. Evil fucking things.

I always hear stories from people about going to the ER if it gets bad enough... or to the doctor, or whatever. I guess it's the way that I deal with most things, but geeeeez - if it gets bad enough that I consider wanting to go to the ER then there's NO way that I could possibly actually get to a hospital, nevermind deal at all with the activity/lights/noise/hell of that environment. I don't know how people do it.

Here I am!
I got them for years! They'd last roughly three days. I used to crawl into my doctor's office and they would take one look at me and lead me to any darkened room they had until the doc could she me. I love them still for that.
Anyway, I got muh boobs whacked off and that actually cut the headaches in half. I still get them sometimes but they are mostly the psychosis related ones.
And I get an after aura. Anyone else get that?

Yes, sometimes I call it the migraine hangover. Sometimes I describe it like it is the edges of the headache but not headache itself.

I've always had to ask someone to take me if i needed to go see the doc. And that ex--hers were so bad there was no way in hell she could drive, she could barely even walk when she had a bad migraine.

I want to respond to some of the above... but I have a freakin' bad migraine right now, am on meds (zomig+fiorinal) and really just can't think or care or anything. ugh.
People are collecting in my kitchen for our regular Friday dinner party. I don't know if I can deal. Lots of other social plans tonight too... been looking forward to it for a while. Good band playing, house party after... Blah. My head hurts and I feel like hurling.

Hey, that reminds me, Q,
:::screech::: :::skid::: as topic is totally derailed
Did you ever buy that house with your friends like you were thinking of doing a while back? Since you've got a good place to have Friday dinner parties, sounds like you musta settled somewhere house-ish.
Never had a migraine. My sinuses are a disaster, but those headaches are small time by comparison.

we're living in the house that we are going to sell. it's still being fixed up and a bit of a delicate (annoying) topic with me right now as things aren't happening as fast as I'd like.
they are downstairs BLASTING black sabbath really loud for some reason right now and I feel like going down there with an axe. guess that would ruin their fun though. *sigh*
Pixildust
10-01-2005, 11:34 AM
Hmm, yeah, an axe rampage probably would ruin their fun. After that Black Sabbath would be blamed for inciting Satanic violence (even if you did only murder the stereo by chopping it to splinters). Media overkill "analysis" of the history of violent crimes sparked by so-called Satanic music would ensue. That might just shoot the ole band up to #1 on iTunes and give them something of a brief resurgence along with Judas Priest, the other band that would be raked over the coals (again).

but i sure do like black sabbath. still brings back fond memories of bush parties (with ozzie blaring through the open doors of jacked up 4x4 trucks), wearing red mac jackets, drinking bad beer and huge raging bon fires with burning wood pallets (sp?) stolen from building sites. ahhh...the teenage years of small town northern girl

Great, I'll try to squeeze that in with the house renovation "work weekend", birthday party for my good friend tonight, dinner party tomorrow, meetings on Sunday and design and photo work that I need to get done.

Hi, I'm T.
Remember a few pages back where I said I hardly ever get'em any more? The headaches?
Well, the lesson today, kiddos, is How Not To Tempt Fate And Keep Your Trap Shut.
They're baaaaaack.
I've dated a couple massage therapists and one recommended a squeeze therapy on my noggin'. She'd place the base of her palm just under the occipital region (the bump on the back of your head) and the other palm on my forehead and squeeze and sliiiiightly lift. The squeeze was slow and not too much pressure and released JUST as slowly.
A lot of the time it would work, even on Psychosis Headaches. They didn't go away but it would take the edge off the pain and give me a minute to catch my breath.
After big headaches I usually get an endorphine high from fighting them for so long.
Ugh. So yeah. Mine are back.

i had my first real migraine ever yesterday. i cannot f-ing believe how painful it was. i was completely debilitated!!! the only thing that eventually numbed the pain was a cocktail of T3's, some homeopathic pills kindly aquired by my lover, and drinking gallons of water.
seriously, it was so bad. my cat was cleaning herself across the room from me and i almost threw up 'cause i was so sensitive.
feeling better today, though still weak. i totally had that weird euphoria some of you described... utter relief at not being in constant pain.
