I have on my list to see:
Motorcycle Diaries
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Other suggestions?

Mean Girls was really funny! I laughed, too.

Hotel Rwanda is one I've been wanting to see, so I will put that at the top of my list after I return the ones I have from my cancelled Blockbuster thingie.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the first movie to come out in months
that I have been interested in seeing. I'll have to go this week.
Thanks for the info Cap.

I've loved about every movie Johnny Depp has done.

Gladiator

It was way more accurate than most other movies in the "classical" genre (i.e., Troy.)

The classics geek takes off:
The arena reconstructions are awesome. They modeled the smaller arena on actual archaeological evidence, and used current theories on the shades that sort-of covered them. The plot is probably trite, but the details in the reconstructions of Empirical Rome outweigh it.

I finally saw Million Dollar Baby. It was good! But I hate crying.

I saw Hide and Seek also. I liked it, although it reminded me of a friend I had to deal with a while ago. He was also "playing a game", as he put it. It was a frightening ordeal.

You didn't steer me wrong el capitan - it was a great movie.
I don't remember the flash backs to his childhood in the book though.
But it was about 25 years ago when I read it...

And if ANY man could convince me to have straight sex again, it would

While I'd have sex with a number of men, Johnny Depp is DEFINITELY on the list! yummmmmmy.
I loved that movie where they made grilled cheese with the iron. I own it, and can't think of the name at the moment! Hate it when I have a brain fart like that...

I've noticed an interesting pattern:

Angelina Jolie seems to be the answer I see when straight women are asked who they would "jump the fence" for.

Johnny Depp appears to be the fence jumper for lesbians. Anyone else notice this?

You know, I held off on seeing it for ever, but I actually kind of liked Closer.

I just watched my favorites all over again: Leolo (a french canadian film about madness), King of Hearts (another film about madness), and Simple Men (guess what it's about) and remembered how much I really enjoy each of them. I also watched Miller's Crossing for the first time in close to 10 years and just think the opening shot is one of the most beautiful ever filmed.

Has anyone heard about http://www.meandyoumovie.com/ ( http://www.meandyoumovie.com/)? I want to see this, but it's only playing in Juneau, which is far too expensive to fly for a film.

I can't wait to see Charlie & the Choclate Factory. Wheeeeee!

Ooooo! Also, if you haven't seen it, look for Dogfight with River Phoenix and Lili Taylor. I also want to see the new Bettie Page movie that's coming out this next year.

Me and You and Everyone We Know does look good. I think I will probably have to wait for it to come out on DVD before I get to see it though.

It doesn't look like anything explodes in this movie though? Are there any chase scenes? If not, I'm not sure how interested I will be in it.

Glad you liked Closer. I really liked that movie.

The Sea Inside. It was nominated for an Oscar last year in the foreign language category, and is really amazing. It's about a man's fight to commit suicide so it's obviously tear-inducing, but very beautifully done.

Oh, and I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, too.

Although not really a movie, the old NBC series Newsradio is out on DVD now, and it's fantastically funny (before Jon Lovitz joined the cast, anyways). My Netflix movies have come to a grinding halt since I keep watching these over and over, and then listening to the commentary...

I watched American Beauty this afternoon (while craftily avoiding writing a paper or christmas shopping). It's such a good, creepy and sad movie, and Kevin Spacey is awesome in it...

Lepus
12-17-2005, 06:57 PM
I love everything Kevin Spacey is in. Err...well...not KPax or Pay it Forward...but in general I love him!

He was so good in The Usual Suspects and LA Confidential. Have you seen those movies?

American Beauty is one of all-time favorite movies. Alan Ball is a genius.

Misch

American Beauty rocks. My Dad insisted that my Mom has a little of the Annette Bening character in her (she's in sales). My Mom was quite offended. LOL

Lepus

Sick! No he was definitely referring to her work ethic.

I have a friend who thought American Beauty was the most disgusting, awful film she'd ever seen. She hated it. She went on and on about how horrible of a movie it was. She couldn't even look at Kevin Spacey anymore without thinking he was just a big child molesting perv. I then told her sorry, but we would never be able to see movies together. I also tend to ask people what they think of it as a guide as to whether I should trust their opinion in movies. It is one of my absolute favorites.

I should've known our movie watching relationship was doomed when she told me she hated Dogma.

Misch
12-18-2005, 03:08 PM
That's interesting. I absolutely loved it. My Dad thought it was great & my Mom was so offended by it. I definitely can't recommend too many movies to my Mom. She gets offended pretty easily. She's not a total prude but you have to be careful what you say around her. Which is hard for me because I have a potty mouth.

Me too, Misch. That is a hard one. My gf's mother hates anyone to cuss around her.
On Thanksgiving she was behind me when I didn't know it and I said to my gf's sister 'Bring it on you
fucking schmaart ass' when we were joking with each other.
Of course the mother heard it, grunted and walked off.
